Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Yvonne Coldron (PhD MSc MCSP MMACP) has joined the North Downs Physiotherapy team as our Women’s Health Specialist.

Urinary Incontinence can make a women feel isolated and embarrassed and may have a negative impact on their lives.  Yvonne is a member of the Association Chartered Physiotherapists in Women’s Health.

As well as an interest in UI, Yvonne has extensive experience in treating pregnant and postnatal women presenting with pelvic girdle and low back pain and other associated musculoskeletal conditions. 

 

Our Women’s Health Service includes treatment of:

  • Urinary Incontinence (including stress and urge incontinence and associated problems of prolapse)
  • Pelvic Girdle and Spinal Pain –(of musculoskeletal origin including Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction)
  • Pelvic pain (of non-musculoskeletal origin)

Modalities used include:

  • Pelvic floor muscle education, retraining and exercise
  • Biofeedback and electrical stimulation for re-education of pelvic floor muscles
  • Manual therapy techniques for problems with spinal, pelvic and hip joints
  • Re-education, strengthening and stability exercises for the trunk and pelvic muscles
  • Soft tissue and myofascial mobilisation techniques 
  • Acupuncture
  • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation and TENS
  • Ergonomics, education and advice

All physiotherapy techniques utilised are evidence based and in line with current thinking.
