Catherine Bradshaw, ODP and Training & Development Co-ordinator at North Downs Hospital is running the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, 15 April and raising funds for Bloodwise (formerly Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research). Please support her by sponsoring her:

Catherine says “After a heroic and long battle with various illnesses and eventually leukaemia, our precious mum lost her fight in 2016 leaving a hole in all ours hearts and lives. I'd like to pay back whatever I can to this cause and running 26.2 miles will hopefully help raise a little for this. I have never run a marathon before so it will be tough, but nothing compared to what leukaemia sufferers and their loved ones endure. Please dig deep and help us move forward to fight this awful illness. Thank you - see you in Brighton!!!!!”

Joanne Parish, Admissions Assistant, is in training to run the London Marathon on 22 April and hoping to raise funds for Sumner Malik. This is what Joanne says about why she is running for this worthy cause, “When I got my London Marathon place I thought I would just run for me as it's a challenge enough to get round 26.2 miles.

But then reading Sumner's daily updates I thought I could make a difference. Sumner Malik, one of a triplet and one of the brightest and bubbliest young squash players alive, has been diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). DIPG is a terminal, paediatric form of brain tumour. ?There are only 40 cases of DIPG diagnosed a year in the UK but every one of those is a tragedy with no confirmed cure and a non-existent survival rate.

There is hope out there though with lots of doctors and hospitals around the world carrying out pioneering research into ways of treating this disease, with a few offering cutting edge treatments on compassionate grounds. These treatments though are unfortunately very expensive and every bit of help is needed to meet the costs.

Sumner and his amazing family go through so much on a daily basis, thinking of them all is helping me through the long training runs and I know will get me round the course come 22nd April

Please give what you can, you will make a difference.”
