Incontinence, Laparoscopic Surgery, Menorrhagia, Urogynaecology. The treatment and diagnosis of pelvic pain, management of vulval disorders, medical and surgical treatment of prolapse and urinary incontinence and minimal (keyhole) treatments of most gynaecological disorders.

Academic background

James Penny was appointed as a consultant in 2001 to Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust. He qualified from St George's Hospital in London and trained at Queen Charlotte and St Mary's Hospital in obstetrics and gynaecology. He also spent 12 months in higher training in Cape Town, South Africa.

He is lead clinician for obstetrics and gynaecology at East Surrey and Crawley Hospitals. His special clinical interest is in the diagnosis and management of pelvic pain. He has established specialist clinics for pelvic pain and for the management of women with vulval disease. He is active in promoting new treatments for women with vaginal prolapse and urinary incontinence and has introduced new techniques into clinical practice at the hospital.
