Facial surgery is not surprisingly a popular cosmetic surgery. With the increase in selfies and seeing your face every time you look in the mirror you are constantly reminded of how your face looks and any facial features that you’re not content with.
Eyelid surgery, face, neck and brow lifts, nose jobs and ear corrections are amongst the commonly chosen cosmetic surgeries for the face.
It may be that you’ve a feature of your face that you’ve never been happy with such as a disproportionately large nose or protruding ears or, that ageing, weight loss, smoking, stress and sun exposure have had an impact on your skin causing your face to appear prematurely saggy, sunken and lined. Some people have sporting facial injuries that lead to feelings of self-consciousness. Whatever the reason facial cosmetic surgery aims to increase your confidence and self-esteem.

Age and sun exposure can leave your skin looking tired and with a loss of elasticity. If you feel that you face has begun to significantly age and you’re conscious of how it looks then you may choose a facelift to tighten your skin and give you a more youthful facial appearance.
A facelift or rhytidectomy is performed under general anaesthetic and takes between three and four hours. Your cosmetic surgeon will make small incisions in your hair line, around the front and behind your ears and, in some cases under your chin. They will carefully and precisely remove slack and excess skin, reposition tissues, tighten muscles and suture your remaining skin into place to your hairline to create a smoother and younger looking face.
Often a facelift is combined with other facial surgeries, such as a blepharoplasty that reduces eye bags, to achieve the best results.
Blepharoplasty, also known as eye bag removal or eyelid surgery, is the procedure of repairing and tightening skin around your eyes to rejuvenate your eyes and reduce the signs of ageing. It can be an upper or lower procedure or both. An upper blepharoplasty involves smoothing loose, lined and crepe-like skin on your eyelids and a lower blepharoplasty involves removing excess, loose and baggy skin under your eyes. Eyelid surgery can also improve your peripheral (side) vision.
A blepharoplasty is carried out as a day case procedure under general anaesthetic and takes less than two hours. Muscle, fat and excess skin around your eyes will be removed to give a more youthful look.
An eyebrow hitch aims to create an arch in your eyebrow to give a more youthful and feminine appearance. An eyebrow hitch takes away some of the heaviness of the upper eyelid and leaves more space in the eye area.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and takes around half an hour. During this time your cosmetic surgeon will make a small incision in your upper eyebrow, within the hair and insert a stitch to your forehead under your skins surface to elevate the eyebrow. They will make every effort to make the stitches invisible on the surface of your skin.
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job or nose reshaping, changes your nose’s shape and size for cosmetic reasons. It may be that you’re unhappy with your nose because you feel it’s too large, disproportional to your face or irregular in shape. Your nose may be naturally this size or shape or may have been caused by an injury.
Reduction rhinoplasty reduces the size of your nose by altering or removing bone and cartilage to reshape your nose and sometimes your nostrils too. Augmentation rhinoplasty increases the size of your nose by reshaping your bone and cartilage, and in some cases, using a graft of extra cartilage or bone.
A rhinoplasty can change the size and shape of your nose from its tip to the bridge. Your cosmetic surgeon can also change the angle between your nose and top lip.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and takes up to three hours.
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated septum when the bone and cartilage that divides your two nostrils has become a displaced. A deviated septum can cause difficulty in breathing.
During a septoplasty procedure, your nasal septum is straightened and repositioned in the middle of your nose. Your surgeon will cut, remove and reinsert your nasal septum to correctly align it.
A septoplasty can be performed along with rhinoplasty.
An otoplasty, also called ear correction, aims to reposition, reshape or resize your ears to make them look how you would like them to. If you feel your ears are protruding or irregularly sized or shaped, then you may want to consider an otoplasty. Ears that are disproportionately large, stick out or, have become misshapen due to injury can cause emotional upset and a lack of self-esteem.
The operation is performed under general anaesthetic as a day case procedure and usually takes between one and two hours.
During surgery your consultant will make a small incision behind your ear, so that any scarring is hidden, and remove or adjust the shape of your cartilage to create the ear look you desire.
